A Winter Hymn
"In the Bleak Midwinter"

This is a concert chorale based on the hymn tune "In the Bleak Midwinter" by Gustave Holst. I used this as a warm-up, working on balance, blend and intonation. The scoring isolates several tonal choirs within the concert band.
This piece is extra pretty, and would fit in any Christmas program. |

I'm going to post a new arrangement every two weeks! It's not easy to simulate the sound of a concert band on a computer, but I do the best I can. Woodwinds and percussion are easy, but brass is much harder. Suspended cymbals, at least with the hardware I have available, seem to be impossible, so I just left them out. Still, I think the recording captures the mood and character of the piece.
